About Live Theatre
‘One of the most fertile crucibles of new writing’ The Guardian
Live Theatre’s vision is for a North East that writes its own story and fights for a more creative future
Live Theatre occupies a unique place as one of the country’s only dedicated new writing buildings outside of London. Across its fifty one-year history it has launched the careers of many of today’s leading theatre figures and continues to develop and platform the artists of tomorrow, from playwrights to local school children. Deeply connected to its region and unafraid to confront the most pressing issues of our time, Live Theatre brings ambitious regional artists and adventurous local audiences into vivid contact.
Live Theatre’s mission is to unearth the rich and unexpected narratives of the North East region, to nurture creativity and bring passionate ideas to life and to be a space that unites people and ignites imaginations.
‘Live Theatre has supported generation after generation of new writers, actors and theatre artists.’ Lee Hall, Playwright
